BENGALURU: A 29-year-old personal company worker has alleged that he was cheated of Rs 1.1 lakh through a conman who promised to get drugs for his US-based uncle at cheaper costs.
The victim, Okay Yashodhara, informed police he paid Rs 1.1 lakh to the conman to obtain the medication. The Whitefield resident mentioned his uncle from america needed Dupixent injection for an allergic situation. As it was pricey in america, they determined to buy it from India and send it to him.
“My uncle requested me to buy the medication for him. I informed him that Dupixent injection isn't available in India. But he supplied the email ID of an individual identified as Kumar. I contacted him via mail, WhatsApp and regular calls. He promised to provide the injection,” Yashodhara mentioned.
According to police, Kumar informed Yashodhara he would provide 10 Dupixent injections in 5 packs for Rs 85,000, following which the latter transferred the cash to the bank account supplied through the previous.
Yashodhara won a mail from a courier company informing his consignment is able and advised him to buy an insurance in opposition to the medication at Rs 25,000 top rate. They informed him he would get again all of the money if the medication were given broken or was misplaced in transit, and will get his top rate again after five% deduction if the consignment is delivered safely. Yashodhara paid for the insurance via a web-based platform, as advised through the courier company.
Yashodhara was knowledgeable through a text message that his consignment had reached Bengaluru. But on another call, he was informed he hadn’t paid the insurance top rate. Yashodhara despatched all the proofs of his cost to the email ID of the courier company, which later grew to become incommunicado.
“When I known as Kumar later, he prompt to document a case in courtroom and offered to organize an advocate for the same. He informed me I would get up to Rs 20 lakh compensation if I paid him Rs 1 lakh advance for the advocate’s rate and another Rs 1 lakh after successful the case,” he mentioned.
“I tried to persuade him that I hadn’t purchased the medication to win Rs 20 lakh in courtroom; I had done it for my uncle’s remedy,” Yashodhara mentioned. Soon, Kumar too couldn’t be contacted over phone.
Whitefield police have registered a case of dishonest under IPC segment 420 in opposition to Kumar and introduced a probe.
