Narrow escape for students in Ludhiana school wall collapse

LUDHIANA: A major tragedy was averted when the boundary wall of Government Primary School, Field Gunj, collapsed at nine.45am on Monday.

The school holds classes I to V in makeshift study rooms subsequent to the wall. “The wall collapsed on the study rooms coated with tarpaulin. Luckily, no scholar was there at that time,” said head instructor Geetika.

The 89-year-old school has 22 students on roll. “As it was raining only 10 students got here. As luck could have it, I had asked all of them to sit in the retailer room, as it is the only concrete construction on the campus,” she added.


Shocked, the team of workers in an instant apprised block primary officer Kawaljeet Kaur of the incident and he or she asked them to take the scholars to a protected position.


“I took the youngsters to a neighbour’s area and referred to as up their oldsters,” the head instructor added.


After the incident, the school declared a holiday on Monday. “The school will now be held from Government Primary School, Shahpur Road, from Tuesday. It will get its personal building quickly,” said deputy district schooling officer (basic) Kuldeep Saini.


Deputy district schooling officer (basic) Dimple Madaan said, “We are yet to submit a grievance to schooling secretary Krishan Kumar. He was previous apprised of the school’s infrastructure issues.”
