BHUBANESWAR: The Supreme Court on Thursday mentioned that it gained a minimum of 12 key ideas from Puri district pass judgement on Ambuja Mohan Das for growth of the functioning of Jagannath temple and convenience of pilgrims. Quoting the Supreme Court’s order, which contained the district pass judgement on’s ideas, Padhi’s lawyer Subhranshu Padhi mentioned that he (Puri pass judgement on) recommended abolition of the hereditary appointment of servitors. “The district pass judgement on has also steered introduction of queue system for hassle-free darshan, entire ban on acceptance of dakshina via sevaks and identification card for servitors and staffs. The Supreme Court has in-principle approved the district pass judgement on’s record and requested the temple administration to do so,” Padhi informed TOI. A few different ideas made via the district pass judgement on are control of temple administration at the shrine kitchen, registration of guides with temple office and ban on the use of thalis and pitchers via sevaks to obtain choices.


Significantly, justice B K Patra Commission had in 1977 was once believed to have even recommended the abolition of hereditary priesthood and the offertory (dakshina) system. But his ideas may just not be implemented due to stiff opposition via servitors.


While the Supreme Court had on June eight banned servitors from accepting dakshina from devotees, the district pass judgement on seen that “thalis and pitchers are being exhibited for selection of money illegally”, the order replica read.
