PATIALA: To counter drug menace, Fatehgarh Sahib police have made up our minds that the entire SHOs within the district will attend common sittings of the villages and get details about the drug suppliers and addicts.
Fatehgarh Sahib superintendent of police Alka Meena on Thursday initiated the power from Kotla Fazal village of the district. The police, she stated, would now take part within the gatherings within the village. Cops would discuss with ‘sath’, common area where a bunch of villagers, most commonly the village elders, take a seat and talk about the problems in their villages.
Each station house officer (SHO) has been assigned the task of retaining public meetings with these villagers on the ‘sath’ and get data from them concerning the drug addicts and the suppliers. They will dangle meetings after five pm and inspire village panchayats to sign up for arms with police in fighting the menace.
There are round 450 villages within the district and nine primary police stations. The SHOs will move into the villages for 6 days in per week. The upper police officials of the district together with the DSPs, SPs and the SSP may even take part within the public meetings in police uniform. The police will collect the knowledge about each village, together with the collection of drug smugglers convicted, accused in drug instances, and collection of drug addicts at the present. The police officers may even fill the paperwork while accumulating the knowledge.
The police had also equipped a loose helpline quantity – 8558818100 to assemble such data. Anyone can name and percentage details about suppliers or drug addicts, and their identity might be stored a secret.
In remaining one-and-a-half year, the Fatehgarh Sahib police have arrested round 300 alleged drug smugglers and registered round 200 FIRs.
