Sri Lankan Tamil couple arrested in TN

TRICHY: The Thuvakudi police arrested a Sri Lankan Tamil couple, who was allegedly fascinated about a number of robberies in Trichy and Namakkal districts, from the airport here on Thursday. The couple was seeking to escape to Sri Lanka, police mentioned.
A police team led via inspector Madan caught Rajan alias Kettiyan Pandi, 33, and his spouse Roopa, 22, at the Trichy International Airport. They have been citizens of a refugee camp in Namakkal district.

The police nabbed them in line with information about their attempt to escape to Sri Lanka through Trichy airport.

Though the couple was fascinated about a number of instances of robberies, a recent chain snatching incident at Vazhavandhankottai at the outskirts of Trichy on July four brought about the police to nab them.


The police mentioned a three-member gang comprising Rajan, Sivaguru and Vigneshwaran snatched a gold chain weighing 3 sovereigns from a Sri Lankan refugee named Devakumari, 50, who lives in Vazhavandhankottai camp. While Sivaguru and Vigneshwaran have been caught via passersby, Rajan fled the scene.


Investigations printed that Rajan’s spouse Roopa was additionally fascinated about robberies.


The couple has been lodged in the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai.
