NEW DELHI: Countering terrorism, bettering regional connectivity and boosting trade can be key center of attention of the BIMSTEC summit in Kathmandu on August 30-31 which can be attended through Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a host of leaders from the area, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

The leaders on the summit are also more likely to deliberate on having a tri-services army exercise some of the member countries besides exchanging views on a free trade settlement, Secretary (East) in the MEA Preeti Saran instructed journalists.

The BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) is a regional grouping comprising Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal. The grouping accounts for 22 consistent with cent of the worldwide population, and has a mixed gross domestic made of $2.8 trillion.
