CANBERRA: Treasurer Scott Morrison will be Australia's new top minister after profitable a three-way struggle for the leadership of the Liberal birthday celebration on Friday, with incumbent Malcolm Turnbull not contesting the birthday celebration poll.
There were 3 contenders within the leadership vote: former home affairs minister Peter Dutton, who narrowly lost a leadership vote towards Turnbull on Tuesday, Morrison and overseas minister Julie Bishop.
The Liberal birthday celebration is the senior partner within the ruling conservative coalition that will face an election by means of May 2019. The Liberal-National govt has consistently trailed the opposition Labor birthday celebration in opinion polls.
If Turnbull resigns from parliament, he would depart the new govt going through a by-election for his Sydney seat that would see it lose its one-seat majority. Turnbull stated on Thursday he believed that former top ministers are best out of the parliament.
