Witness in Unnao Rape case dies, Rahul Gandhi smells 'conspiracy'

NEW DELHI: One of the witnesses in the rape case of a minor lady in Unnao, in which BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was allegedly concerned, has died, prompting a terse observation from Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who said it smelled of a conspiracy.
The CBI, which is probing the alleged rape case, said the safety and security of witnesses is a accountability of the state police and it was now not in the domain of the central agency.

According to the tips shared through the Uttar Pradesh Police with the CBI, the witness, named Yunus, who ran a normal service provider shop in Makhi village, the place the MLA and the victim also reside, was allegedly now not neatly for someday.

Yunus was a witness in the CBI case involving fatal attack on the father of the rape victim allegedly through the brother of the MLA Atul Singh Sengar and four others.


The father of the rape victim had died in the prison the place he was saved on the alleged false charges beneath the arms act.


Yunus' family has given a remark to the police that he was suffering from liver ailment since 2013 and his death is the result of the illness, UP Police assets said.


They said paperwork associated with the treatment undertaken through Yunus have also been recovered through the police.
