Assam NRC: Supreme Court orders resumption of filing of claims and objections by those left out

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered resumption of filing of claims and objections through around 40 lakh individuals who had been left out within the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam + .

A bench comprising Justices Ranjan Gogoi amd R F Nariman said the process of receiving claims and objections through the individuals who had been left out will start on September 25 and stay open for the following 60 days.

"We are of the view that all that we are required to do at this stage is to open the filing of claims and objections with regard to inclusion in the draft NRC published in July this year," the bench said.

The opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress these days attacked the government within the Lok Sabha over the problem of Assam's National Register of Citizens, accusing it of making an attempt to polarise other people and forcing them out in their land.


It also made transparent that the second one alternative has been granted to the citizens maintaining in mind the "magnitude" of the problem.


The bench, which has now posted the matter for hearing on October 23, has sought the view of Prateek Hajela, coordinator of Assam NRC, on stance of the central executive in regards to applicability and non-applicability of sure paperwork for inclusion of names within the NRC. +


The first draft of the NRC for Assam used to be printed at the intervening night time of December 31 and January 1 in response to the top court docket's course. Names of 1.9 crore other people out of the 3.29 crore applicants had been incorporated then.
