UK properties raided over ‘extremist activity’ in India

LONDON: British detectives on Tuesday raided several properties within the Midlands in reference to alleged extremist task and fraud in India. Some Sikh radicals within the United Kingdom have claimed that the raids have been focused at them.

The raids took section as a part of an investigation through the West Midlands counterterrorism unit, which raided residential addresses in Coventry, Leicester and Birmingham on Tuesday with the beef up of East Midlands Special Operations Unit — Special Branch.

“The searches are in reference to allegations of extremist task in India and fraud offences,” a spokesperson for the West Midlands police mentioned, without giving any longer details. No one has but been arrested.

Fugitive Indian businessman Nirav Modi, accused within the Punjab National Bank rip-off, is thought to be hiding within the Midlands.


A spokesperson for the Sikh Federation (UK), alternatively, mentioned the raids have been focused at some Sikh activists and have been linked to Jagtar Singh Johal, an accused within the focused killings and underneath arrest in Punjab.


“We suspect they're targeting Sikh activists as Indian authorities are desperate to get any evidence that they
