Digvijaya: Cong will lose votes if I campaign

NEW DELHI: A viral video, showing Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh telling local birthday party leaders that he won’t marketing campaign since the birthday party “loses votes on every occasion he speaks”, has sparked controversy not up to six weeks forward of the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.

The video begins with Singh exhorting local leaders in Bhopal — together with PCC treasurer Govind Goyal and Bhopal district appearing president Kailash Mishra — that their dream of forming the government will not be fulfilled in the event that they don’t work together. “Kam nahin karoge to khwab purna nahin hoga. Nahin banegi sarkar. Dushman ko bhi price ticket mile to kam karo, jitao use hello (Even if your enemy is given a price ticket, work for him and make sure he wins),” he says, sooner than including: “Main bas yehi karunga. Na to bhashan, na prachar. Mere bolane se to Cong ke vote kam hote hain (I can do handiest this. No speech, no campaigning. If I speak, Congress loses votes).”

So far, Singh has kept a low profile all through campaigning. He has hardly spoken at public conferences and not interacted with the media either. Congress resources say he has in large part restricted himself to the position of birthday party’s backroom boy — assembly leaders of different factions all the way through the state and working to bridge their variations.

However, taking into account Congress’s legacy of faction fights, the video has brought about hypothesis that regardless of the birthday party prime command’s best efforts, factionalism is smouldering in Madhya Pradesh Congress. Many additionally wonder whether Singh — a two-term CM — has been asked to keep a low profile because of his propensity to make controversial statements.
