VISAKHAPATNAM: Mahendra Singh Dhoni Tuesday relived his fond reminiscences of the city by way of doing a customary pitch inspection at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, the place he announced himself on the global scene more than 13 years ago.
The 37-year-old Dhoni, a two-time World Cup successful former captain now, walked in, noticed the pitch and in brief chatted with groundsmen on the eve of the second one one-day global between India and West Indies.
While Dhoni made his global debut towards Bangladesh in what was a subdued get started, he stuck the cricket global's fancy for the first time together with his swashbuckling 148 in a high-scoring fit towards arch opponents Pakistan in 2005.
India won that sport and there was no taking a look back since for Dhoni.
The BCCI tweeted: "The KING is here! This ground and the city of Visakhapatnam has a special bond. Memories aplenty. Let's create plenty more tomorrow."
Dhoni has batted 4 occasions within the venue so far, aggregating just about 250 runs with a wholesome average of 80 and a strike fee above 100.
More than 13 years ago, coming to bat at No. three after the autumn of Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni modified the complexion of the game with a knock full of dazzling strokes, which might become his trademark.
That day, even Virender Sehwag's 40-ball 74 paled compared.
Given the bond Dhoni and the venue and the port town proportion, it was apt when a gaggle of fit volunteers, pursuing chartered accountancy and engineering, declared "MSD is the city's favourite, our favourite".
"No one but MSD."
Besides giving them an innings to keep in mind, Dhoni had praised the city and its beautiful landscapes, which became the launchpad for his good fortune tale.
