AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) wants all roads within the city to be resurfaced earlier than March 31. The AMC had previous set the deadline for completing the street resurfacing work by way of May 31.
Sources within the AMC said that the ruling BJP does not need dangerous roads to be a topic within the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In the status committee meeting, all the deputy municipal commissioners were asked to absorb the matter with the street contractors and ensure that the works are completed earlier than March 31.
The officers had been urged to ask the contractors to position in additional equipment, if required. Standing committee chairman Amul Bhatt said that the street resurfacing work is happening in complete swing and the AMC has installed further paver machines for resurfacing in two zones — South Zone and North Zone — and in the remainder zones, one paver machine is working.
He said that the AMC has to make use of around three lakh metric tonnes of road steel of which only 57,000MT has been used to this point. He, alternatively, did not have the determine of the period of the street to be resurfaced. Another BJP office-bearer said, “During the 2017 meeting polls in Gujarat, the birthday celebration needed to face a hard state of affairs because of dangerous roads or even a marketing campaign was once introduced against it.
