WB assembly pays homage to veteran leaders

KOLKATA: The West Bengal meeting on Thursday paid homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, and former chief of the opposition in the state, Pankaj Banerjee.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who shared a cordial relationship with the three politicians, especially Vajpayee, is recently on an administrative tour to the districts and used to be now not present in the meeting.

Mamata Banerjee used to be the railway minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government,

State ministers Chandrima Bhattacharya, Firhad Hakim, and BJP's state president Dilip Ghosh were amongst those who paid homage to the departed leaders.

Ghosh recalled his first assembly with Vajpayee during a celebration rally in Mumbai and the way the previous PM had handled a scenario along with his wit.

Vajpayee passed away in August this 12 months on the age of 93. He used to be the primary non-Congress Prime Minister to complete his five-year time period.
