Yavatmal: Over 150 families, most of them from tribal communities and labour elegance, had been on Saturday rendered homeless and left to shiver in the cold after their huts at the city’s outskirts had been razed by way of the government for highway widening undertaking.
The inhabitants of over 600, mostly comprising elderly other people and kids, has been living in the shanties on Pimpalgaon bypass since remaining 40 years. According to the families, they have got been paying their civic taxes incessantly. One of the affected dwellers, Sangita Meshram, mentioned, “Where will have to we go now and how you can keep our little children protected from the biting cold?”

More than 150 police workforce averted any protest in opposition to the demolition pressure carried out by way of the Yavatmal Municipal Council and B&C division. Sources mentioned those who tried to object the “illegal” act had been overwhelmed and rounded up by way of the Lohara police on fees of causing obstruction in government paintings.
The dwellers mentioned throughout the remaining 2-3 months political leaders had tried to assure them that they won’t be rendered homeless.
Sitting Shiv Sena MP Bhavana Gawali had led two morchas to the district collector’s administrative center for the tribals. Even BSP district leader Tarique Lokhandwala had led a morcha and submitted a memorandum of calls for to the collector.
It is learnt, district collector Rajesh Deshmukh had won go-ahead from mother or father minister Madan Yerawar for the pressure. However, when contacted, the collector told TOI that he had no information and can discuss after the District Planning Council meeting scheduled on Saturday.
MC leader Kanchantai Chaudhari mentioned it was once the decision of the B&C and she does no longer have details.
Gawali mentioned, “We have shortlisted the affected 82 families having BPL playing cards for the PM’s Awas Yojana. The Municipal Council has got funds and land for it.” She added that in spite of repeated requests, the government involved didn't pay heed to their simply calls for.
