22 egret carcasses found, poisoning suspected

AHMEDABAD: In the realm near Kalol, at the outer edge of the Thol Bird Sanctuary, some 22 farm animals egrets have died and 34 more have been sent to the woodland division’s Van Chetna Kendra for treatment. The deaths have most likely been brought about by consumption of pesticide which will have been left in the open.

Forest division officers mentioned postmortems of these birds can be performed to ascertain the reason for death.

Kalpesh Devani, a flora and fauna volunteer, mentioned that on Wednesday they got a call informing them of the large-scale deaths of farm animals egrets. A staff rushed to the realm and found 20 dead birds and 20 birds in distress. “On analyzing the bodies, it turned into clear that the most likely explanation for the problem used to be pesticide poisoning. On Friday we got more studies of farm animals egrets deaths and 14 ill birds were discovered.”

Devani, who manages a bunch of flora and fauna fanatics, mentioned that a staff of theirs will discuss with the realm and to investigate what has brought about those deaths, whether or not pesticide used to be left in the open or whether or not the birds had ate up it from fields.

Thousands of migratory birds iciness at Thol. Forest division officers mentioned Nalsarovar and Thol areas also are recognized to attract poachers. At least two incidents of poaching were reported this year, in August and September. As migratory birds have begun to arrive at Nalsarovar and Thol, the department has stepped up their vigil in the area.
