Bavalia files nomination, Congress yet to declare candidate

RAJKOT: Minister in Vijay Rupani executive, Kunvarji Bavalia on Friday filed his nomination from Jasdan seat for the by-election scheduled on December 20. Bavalia, a 5 time Congress MLA from Jasdan, had joined BJP after successful 2017 assembly election on Congress ticket.

The by election is said after Bavalia resigned as Jasdan MLA on July 2. He was once inducted within the Rupani cabinet on the same day and given portfolios of minister for water provide, animal husbandry and rural housing.

On Friday, Bavalia was once accompanied by union minister Mansukh Mandavia and Gujarat energy minister Saurabh Patel when he went to file his nomination papers. Before filing the nomination he addressed a rally and native BJP employees.

Bavalia’s spouse Parul crammed nomination as a dummy candidate.

The BJP minister expressed self belief that he'll win with hefty margin.

According to election officer total six different candidates filed the nomination on Friday. Except Bavalia all of the candidates are unbiased.


Meanwhile, the primary opposition Congress was once yet announced its candidate for the bypoll. The ultimate date to file nominations is December 3. Congress is anticipated to announce its candidate by Saturday night.


However, Dhoraji Congress MLA Lalit Vasoya collected a nomination form from election officer on Friday. When contacted Vasoya said “I have been asked by Rajkot district president to gather the form. If birthday celebration asks me I will be able to contest the election.”


The notification for the by-election was once issued on November 26 by the Election Commission. Counting of votes shall be carried out on December 23.
