IMFL worth Rs 55 lakh seized on Rajkot-Ahmedabad Highway

RAJKOT: As bootlegging across Saurashtra has grow to be rampant with New Year approaching, Rajkot police has larger vigil over the unlawful actions. A total of 30,948 bottles of Indian made overseas liquor (IMFL), value Rs 55.57 lakh, were seized from a container truck and its driving force arrested from Rajkot-Ahmedabad Highway close to Sayla in Surendranagar district on Friday night.

The driving force used to be known as Jogindersing Sardar (36), a resident of Panvel in Navi Mumbai.

During interrogation, Sardar instructed the police officers that the liquor consignment have been loaded at the container via a bootlegger known as Pawan in Panvel.

Pawan had forged a transportation invoice stating that the availability used to be meant to be transferred to Porbandar. Police intercepted the container once they won a tip-off about its scheduled arrival in Sayla.


“Sardar said that the liquor consignment used to be meant to be delivered in Rajkot. He used to be meant to get the ideas regarding the delivery from Pawan after attaining Rajkot. We are probing as to that have been the bootleggers who were meant to take the delivery of the consignment,” said M P Vala, sub-inspector of Rajkot speedy reaction cell.


Meanwhile, intensifying their crackdown on bootlegging and Bacchus enthusiasts, the Rajkot police formed 25 groups consisting of the officials from crime department, special operation staff and body of workers from other police stations.


“All the police officers within the groups are supplied breath analysers to catch drunkards all the way through New Year party. We have also prepared a list of farmhouses and we will be able to be sporting out regular checking there to catch the ones flouting the Prohibition Act,” said Atul Sonara, sub-inspector of Rajkot crime department.


“We have now not issued a unmarried allow to any farmhouse to prepare celebration. In the town inns, we've made the set up of CCTV cameras obligatory and we will be able to be tracking the actions over there.
