JJM alleges violations by Adani plant, firm says followed rules

RANCHI: The Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha (JJM) has accused Adani Power (Jharkhand) limited of gross violations of regulations whilst acquiring land for its 1600MW thermal power plant in Godda.
The JJM is a coalition of over 30 different social organisations. On October 16 and 17 it performed a fact-finding survey. In its report it highlighted some gross violations dedicated by means of the company. The report was once handed over to governor Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday.

The fact-finding crew comprising Kumar Chand Mardi, Chintamani Sahu, Vivek Kumar, Veer Singh and Basant Hetamsaria ready a seven-page report after talking to the villagers.

The report claims that two villagers of Motia, Ganesh Pundit and Navin Pundit, were shown as dead within the corporate’s survey report although each are alive.

“Ganesh Pundit’s son was once unwilling to offer away their land however the corporate officers manipulated and acquired two bighas following which Navin Pundit’s son too agreed to give up their land and settle for compensation,” Vivek mentioned.

The report questions the applicability of Jharkhand Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act within the Adani venture.

“The regulation permits the federal government to procure private land for a public venture or a private enterprise provided a minimum of 80% of the affected households give their consent. Since coal for the thermal power plant will be imported from Australia and the generated electricity will be bought to Bangladesh, other people of Godda and Jharkhand aren't going to profit in any respect. Rather they are going to be subjected to setting pollution and depletion of water table. Hence categorising this venture as a ‘public venture’ is gross violation of provisions of the Act,” the crew mentioned.

Refuting JJM’s allegations, an Adani Power (Jharkhand) spokesperson mentioned the company has been following all the regulations laid down by means of the federal government.

“After all, it's the state executive that has allowed the company to ascertain the facility plant,” mentioned the spokesperson, who didn't wish to be named.

“We have completed the primary segment of land acquisition and development of the boundary wall is going on,” the spokesperson added.
