Tight security in Sabarimala in view of Babri anniversary

SANNIDHANAM: With the rustic staring at the 26th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition on Thursday, the protection forces at Sabarimala have intensified vigil.

On Wednesday, the state and central safety forces together with the police, nationwide crisis response workforce and fast action drive of central reserve police drive jointly took out a route march at Sannidhanam and surrounding places as part of the special vigil. The march started from Vavaru Swamy Nada and passed by way of Pandithavalam, Annadanapura, Bayley bridge, Marakkootam, Sabaripeedom, Sharamkuthi and Valiya Nadapanthal. The members of commandos, bomb detection and disposal squad and fast response and rescue drive of state police too were part of the march. A complete 150 body of workers from all forces took section within the route march.


In the afternoon, a meeting of senior officers of all forces were convened within the Travancore Devaswom Board visitor space during which the protection arrangements were reviewed.


SP P Karuppasamy, who is the special officer of police at Sannidhanam, said that it used to be an annual practice of the forces to tighten safety in any respect necessary and delicate places within the country on Babri Masjid day. People evoking suspicion could be checked at the day. However, care shall be taken to ensure clean pilgrimage.


The special officer in charge of Nilackal region, H Manjunath, said that all the law enforcement officials on duty under him were directed to be alert.
