MYSURU: There has been a spike in the number of liquor addicts amongst tribals as deficient quality liquor is being provided to their doorsteps in haadis or tribal hamlets of HD Kote taluk.
Surprisingly, the miscreants are the use of girls and children to supply the liquor packets to haadis to avoid getting stuck.
There are a number of tribal settlements on Mysuru-HD Kote road, which connects Kerala at a small village called Bavali. As hundreds of cars travel between the two states, the number of liquor stores has greater over time.
Ironically, even illegal liquor stores have come up beneath the nose of police and excise government. They promote liquor packets via girls and children luring them for incomes simple cash.
Zilla Budakattu Krishikara Sangha chief Nataraju informed STOI that those miscreants take help of girls and children to supply liquor packets to the haadis.
“The illicit liquor packets are either saved in a basket with vegetables or hid in the clothes of girls and children. Each liquor sachet costs Rs 70 and the ladies promote them for Rs 90 to Rs 100. As police does now not take a look at or question girls or children, the supply of liquor is continuing without any hindrance,” he stated.
“Every haadi has around 3 to four such individuals who provide liquor from stores to haadis. Every day, around 3 liquor bins are provided to each haadi,” he added.
Tribals declare that illegal liquor stores have come up at Penjalli, Ankanathapura, Anagatti, Ramenahalli, Dammanakatte, Naganahalli, Metikuppe and GM Halli.
Gram panchayat member Basavaraju stated, lately that they had lodged a police grievance towards a tribal youth in Basavanagiri A Haadi who used to promote illegal liquor. Police detained and later released him after a caution. “Now, the youth does now not promote liquor,” he stated. Recently, a tribal in Marnadi haadi died of eating illicit liquor.
Rajya Moola Adivasi Vedike chief Vijayakumar informed STOI that they have got given written grievance to the excise division as well as police government, however no action has been initiated towards the illegal stores or gang individuals.
“Liquor will likely be provided from 8am to haadis. We have given names of the individuals who promote liquor illegally to government, however no action has been initiated,” he stated.
