29 residential school girls rescued

Berhampur: Twenty-nine Class IX girl students of a government-run residential college at Antaraba in Gajapati district’s Mohana block, who had run away from the hostel early on Sunday morning, have been rescued by means of the district welfare officer, his team of workers and police round nighttime at Tangilipadara close to Chandragiri, about 20 km from the varsity.
The students have been on their technique to meet district collector Anupam Saha at Paralakhemundi and provide their criticism before him. According to them, their studies were affected due to loss of coordination among teachers. “After the day-long search, we traced them to a house at Tangilipadara. All the students were introduced again to the varsity,” mentioned district welfare officer (DWO) Santosh Kumar Rath.

He mentioned they have been counselled within the presence of their folks on Monday. They have promised to not repeat the act, he mentioned. Rath mentioned he used to be undertaking an inquiry into the incident following a directive from collector. “Besides, police have also made separate inquiries into the matter. We will counsel the collector to take action in opposition to the ones found in charge within the incident,” mentioned Rath. The district management has taken the matter severely, he added. He suspected some might have instigated them to flee from the hostel and meet the collector.


He mentioned round 450 students from Class I to X have been housed within the hostel. But most effective 29 of the Class IX students deliberate and jumped the hostel wall to move the collector, Rath mentioned, after preliminary inquiry.


After deserting the hostel, they assembled in a house in a nearby village before continuing to Paralakhemundi. Worried over the incident, several officials, including district collector and superintendent of police searched nearby areas to locate them.


“We have lodged an FIR with police,” he informed.
