VARANASI: The usual hustle-bustle returned to city ghats as vacationers were given to experience boatride in Ganga after 8 days of boatmen’s strike, on Saturday evening.
The boatmen known as off their stir because the cruise operator agreed to shift passenger boarding point from Assi to Ravidas Ghat following intervention of the district management at the 9th day in their strike.
ADM city VK Singh and SP city Dinesh Kumar Singh known as the boatmen with their leaders together with Pramod Majhi and Shambhu Sahan at Assi Ghat on Saturday past due afternoon to carry a final spherical of talks with them in the presence of the corporate operating cruise in the Ganga.
The ADM city stated that the boatmen had been rigid on their call for of transferring jetty put in at Assi Ghat to Samneghat. “But, as Samneghat area has no set-up like different pucca ghat, transferring jetty there was once unattainable. The cruise operators gave an offer to shift the quay to Ravidas Ghat for boarding passengers. The boatmen agreed to it however they wanted it in written. The company gave the written assurance and can shift jetty from Assi to Ravidas Ghat. The cruise will get started boarding passengers from Ravidas Ghat from January 7.” On getting this assurance, Shambhu stated that the boatmen agreed to call off their strike in the evening.
The boatmen had long gone on indefinite strike from December 28 in protest in opposition to cruise operator’s move of accumulating passengers from a couple of points together with Assi Ghat and different calls for. Intensifying their stir on December 31, they had blocked waterway in river Ganga to disrupt cruise movement on December 31. Again, on Thursday evening they anchored their boats across the cruise boat at Assi Ghat to stop its movement.
Despite several spherical of talks with district Justice of the Peace Surendra Singh, ADMs and ACMs the boatmen persevered their strike in opposition to cruies operators’ practice of boarding passengers from a couple of points. The district management was once discovering it difficult to fulfil the call for because the cruise operator has licence to operate between Rajghat and Samneghat after finishing all legal formalities.
