MUMBAI: A 16-year-old Virar woman used to be set on fire through her father at their house for allegedly speaking on her cellular phone on Monday. The woman suffered over 70% burns and is struggling with for lifestyles at KEM sanatorium in Parel.
The incident took place round 2pm when the lady, Shaista, who works as a space assist, used to be speaking on her cellular phone, said the police. “Her father, Mohammed Mansoori, who does abnormal jobs, entered the room and requested her to position down the phone. Suspecting that she used to be having an affair and speaking to her lover at the telephone, he told her that he did not like her spending lengthy hours at the telephone,” said the police.
But the lady endured to speak at the telephone, said an officer. “Angry, Mansoori charged towards her, grabbed her cellular phone and threw it at the surface. He then started hitting the lady and requested her whom she used to be speaking to and how she got a cellular phone. Her mother tried to intrude but used to be requested to stay away,” said an officer. When the lady tried to run out of the ground-floor rented flat in Virar (E), Mansoori dragged her again, pulled her into the kitchen, lifted the range and poured kerosene from it at the woman, said the officer. “He then set her on fire.”
Eyewitnesses said that the lady on fire ran out of the house screaming for assist and her mother followed. Neighbours tried to douse the flames and poured water on her. The woman collapsed and used to be rushed to a sanatorium. Later, she used to be moved to KEM and medical doctors said her condition used to be important.
The police have arrested Mansoori for try to murder under IPC Section 307. He has been despatched to police custody through the Vasai court. Mansoori has told law enforcement officials Shaista used to spend hours at the cellular phone but by no means told him who she used to be communicating with.
