Ex-GP officials get 1-year-jail term

MANGALURU: The civil and JMFC court in Belthangady has sentenced former president and secretary of Kaniyoor gram panchayat to 1 12 months imprisonment for misappropriation of finances allotted for the Indira Awaas Yojana (now Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana) in 2009.
The then secretary Sheena, the primary accused and president Mahesh, the second one accused, were sentenced to 1 12 months imprisonment and a Rs five,000 wonderful beneath IPC Section 409 (prison breach of accept as true with by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) learn with IPC 34 (acts done by several individuals in furtherance of commonplace goal) and 6 months imprisonment and a Rs five,000 wonderful beneath IPC Section 420 (dishonest and dishonestly inducing supply of belongings) learn with IPC 34.

Sum transferred


In 2009, a sum of Rs three.05 lakh have been transferred from the Belthangady department of a nationalised financial institution to the Indira Awaas Yojayana account of Kaniyoor gram panchayat. Sheena and Mahesh collectively signed the cheque and later diverted the cash to Sheena’s non-public account, thereby deceiving the villagers.


The then circle inspectors of Belthangady, Ok Nagesh and B Ok Manjayya had filed the chargesheet.


Judge B Ok Komala held the duo guilty. Advocate G Ok Kiran was the public prosecutor in the case.
