Helmets: Cops in fix on those with med problems

PUNE: People with clinical prerequisites like cervical spondylosis, previous forehead injuries or skull surgeries are in a fix over the helmet rule being enforced through the Pune police.

The visitors police have been cracking the whip on helmet-less riders around the city since January and such individuals are anxious about being fined as they can't put on a helmet.

A running professional, on the condition of anonymity, said, “I have to travel just about 12 to 13km to and from paintings each day. I have cervical spondylosis and have been recommended through the doctor treating me to use a cervical collar while riding. It is not imaginable to strap the helmet over the collar nor is it imaginable to position the strap underneath it. The motion in opposition to helmet-less riders is widespread. I am afraid that if I am caught whether the policemen will accept my clinical certificates.”

Orthopaedic surgeon Milind Modak said other folks with such prerequisites must opt for helmets with particular designs that include abundant neck give a boost to and different options so that the cervical backbone is not stressed.

“There could be different circumstances like those who have problems associated with the forehead or those who have passed through skull surgery as they may have boundaries on wearing a helmet,” he said .

The running professional said she had to use her two-wheeler in the absence of an efficient public transport device.


Orthopaedic surgeon Kiran Shete said if the affected person is affected by acute cervical spondylosis or such prerequisites, they must keep away from riding a two-wheeler. But,there may be circumstances the place the person has no different choices and will have to ride and not using a helmet.


“Wearing a collar and helmet is hard. In case of diseases like occipital nueralgia, through which the occipital nerves are inflamed or injured, we ask the affected person to keep away from wearing a helmet,” he added.


Shete added that if a affected person can't in fact use a helmet, a clinical certificates will have to be permitted through the police. “Persons with authentic prerequisites will also be allowed to use two-wheelers and not using a helmet. Sending all such individuals to Sassoon General Hospital for such certificates might result in harassment,” he said.


Deputy commissioner of police (visitors) Tejaswi Satpute said, “There aren't any directions on the procedure to be followed in circumstances of individuals with clinical prerequisites. We will search lend a hand from the Bombay top court docket after studying the issue at our level.”
