Mysuru: Highlighting the unique place that Kumaravayasa’s epic poem Karnata Bharata Kathamanjari or ‘Gadugina Bharatha’ occupied within the annals of Kannada literature, eminent novelist SL Bhyrappa on Wednesday said, “There is not anything somewhat like Karnata Bharata Kathamanjari. Kumaravyasa isn't a grasp of poetry, he's more a grasp among poets. More than reading Adi Kavi Pampa, I revel in studying Kumaravyaasa. I grew up with Bharta Kaavya ringing in my ears, and within the 1940s, prior to the graduation of any public programme, the poem would be recited.”
Bhyrappa, who released a revised edition of Kumaravyasa’s ‘Gadugina Bharatha’, credited Karnataka’s 2d chief minister Kengal Hanumanthaiah for popularising Kumaravyaasa, by way of bringing out the primary edition of the magnum opus. “Following the release of the primary edition of the guide, the earnings division offered copies of the guide at Rs 2 to Shanbogs and Patels of every village, who in turn, offered it to the folks for Rs 8. It was once more like a black market,” said Bhyrappa, expressing admiration to fellow author CP Krishnakumar for bringing out a revised edition of ‘Gadugina Bharatha’. “The executive should print more copies of the guide, and distribute copies to the public at an inexpensive price,” the Saraswathi Samman recipient added.

Calling Kumaravyasa an excellent poet, who was once extremely acclaimed among his contemporaries, Krishnakumar said, “He can very simply be compared to the English bard William Shakespeare, but his texts are very hard to translate. The author’s art work are recorded in 8 pages within the guide.”

Condemning the government’s decision to present a fillip to English-medium schooling in executive colleges, Bhyrappa opined that kids should learn of their mother tongue once they were younger. “They can be told other languages when they develop up. Private institutions have given more prominence to English, which has also transform essential to get employment. The decision is, alternatively, left to the government,” Bhyrappa said.

He added that writers should now not communicate too ceaselessly at public fora, explaining his reluctance to ship keynote addresses at public ceremonies. “Public speaking is a difficult task,” Bhyrappa said.
