Justin Langer rues dearth of batting talent

SYDNEY: Australia trainer Justin Langer admitted on Monday that there is a dearth of batting talent within the country as not enough gifted batsmen are coming through the ranks.

Australia have added leg-spinning all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne to the 13-member squad shortly after losing the third Test on the MCG on Sunday, but Langer remains to be undecided in regards to the shape of the enjoying XI for the fourth Test that begins on Thursday.

Australia are more likely to tinker with their batting order whilst they give the impression of being to bring again Peter Handscomb in an effort to bolster the batting. Langer noticed that given the paucity of talent, it is difficult being a selector in this day and age. "We've got to be careful not to reward poor performances, but it's not as if the guys are absolutely banging the door down. Most of our batters knocking on the door are averaging in the 30s (in the Sheffield Shield)," Langer informed journalists on Monday.

Langer has some degree. Barring Usman Khawaja, no Australian figures within the list of top-10 run-getters in Tests in 2018. And Khawaja's century in Dubai in opposition to Pakistan in October remains the one Test hundred scored by means of any Australian in all of the 12 months. "The art of batting, we've got some work to do," Langer said. "Whether it's the system... whether it's something we've got to change in our psyche, I'm not sure. It's something everyone is looking at."

Despite his poor run of scores within the collection so far, Langer subsidized Finch to come back good. "He's the only guy playing all three forms of the game (for Australia). He's got to somehow recharge his batteries over and over and over again. It's a great challenge."

However, Langer's close friends and previous captains Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting differed with him on variety problems for the general Test. Waugh, who posted his enjoying XI on Instagram, overlooked Finch, who prefer to open with Marcus Harris and Shaun Marsh. He additionally made over the middle-order by means of pushing up Travis Head to No. four.

Langer is hoping that the SCG pitch can have more bounce than the only on the MCG. "All the years we have gone to India, we have not had too many bouncy wickets, and it usually spins square. We are interested to see what we get in Sydney. We are not sure - it has been a bit inconsistent," he said. "India played a practice game there and it was very flat. In the Shield game there a few weeks ago, it was very flat. We certainly hope it is not."
