MADURAI: The Madurai town police have booked a development contractor, his members of the family and a few partners for allegedly harassing a woman who approached him to build a house for her.
In her complaint with the Thirupparankundram police, M Poongothai alleged that she had approached the contractor, T Raman, to build a house on an empty plot in Sengundram Nagar at an estimated value of Rs 25 lakh. She paid Rs 21 lakh as advance, as demanded via the contractor, seven months ago. But she was disenchanted when she found that building paintings was no longer progressing.
Poongothai, who works as a cashier in the State Bank of India, approached Raman asking why the paintings was progressing slowly. The contractor demanded a few extra lakhs of rupees to resume paintings. Soon a dispute broke out between them. He and his members of the family allegedly threatened her with dire penalties.
Later, they allegedly barged into her house and scolded her.
The police booked the contractor, his spouse, son, better half's mother, brother and partners Raja and Doss beneath quite a lot of sections of the IPC and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
