MEERUT: A video of an elderly man publicly flogging his 18-year-old son after tying the latter to a pillar has long past viral on social media. The incident came about on Sunday at Tajpura village in Behat space of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, the youth used to be brutally assaulted after he uploaded a video with image of a girl from the similar village on social media web site. The topic used to be taken up in a local panchayat after criticism from the lady's family.
"The panchayat was convened after the video went viral and the girl's parents complained about it. Following the panchayat's order, the youth was assaulted by his father. We have taken cognizance of the incident and issued instructions to local police to take appropriate action," stated Saharanpur SSP Dinesh Kumar P.
"As of now, we have not received any complaint from the victim. We are trying to get in touch with him. We have also have issued strict instructions to the locals against taking law in their hands," the SSP stated.
Locals claimed that the youth had uploaded image of a girl with out her consent on a social media web site call 'Tik Tok'. Girl's family raised objection after the video went viral and the panchayat ordered punishment following which he used to be publicly flogged by way of his father and others.
In the 90 second video, the youth will also be noticed being beaten mercilessly using lathi by way of a person who is said to be his father. Later, any other man may be noticed beating the youth screaming in pain while any other man held him firmly across the pillar.
This is not the primary time a local panchayat has intervened in disputes and offences and issued diktat. Such Kangaroo courts have been intervening in instances of caste conflict, marital dispute, love relationships, adultery and molestation as villagers generally tend to heed to their diktat.
In March final year, a 25-year-old lady, who used to be accused of eloping with a local youth, used to be tied to a tree and publicly thrashed by way of her husband in Longa Village of Syana area in Bulandshahr district.
Later in June 2018, Sri Krishna, a 44-year-old resident of Sonda Habibpur village in Bulandshahr used to be allegedly forced to lick his personal spit in public following panchayat's order because his son married a girl from a different religion.
