Metro hotlines with Lalbazar, fire HQ soon

KOLKATA: Metro Railway now plans to have hotlines between its control room, the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar and the fire products and services division headquarters. The hotlines will save treasured time during emergencies like the one who befell at the night time of December 27, 2018, when the undercarriage of a Metro rake stuck fireplace within the tunnel close to the Maidan station. Though station personnel had succeeded in controlling the blaze by the point fireplace products and services and Kolkata Police team of workers reached the spot, the location will have grew to become grave had the fire unfold.

“We have already written to the commissioner of Kolkata Police and the director common of fireplace and emergency products and services, West Bengal. These can be dedicated traces and each and every time a call reaches them, officers will know that it's from the Metro. The handiest data they'll require is the site. Such calls may also get best precedence. The traces can be set up via BSNL and Metro Railway will pay for them,” Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee mentioned.

Since July, 2018, Metro has been urging the fire products and services division to play a greater function in tackling situations alongside the community, specifically within the tunnels. According to another Metro reliable, there are limits to the type of preparations that transport operators like the Metro can handle, as far as emergency products and services are involved.

“Our number one task is to run trains and elevate passengers. For emergencies, we do have preparations and trained team of workers. However, we will never match the expertise and facilities to be had with the fire products and services division or the Kolkata Police’s Disaster Management Group (DMG) whose number one task is to battle fires and save life and belongings. Similarly, we do have RPF team of workers but they don't seem to be adequate to take care of regulation and order. Hence, there is a separate force known as Metro Railway Police comprising Kolkata Police team of workers,” he mentioned.

After the fire that ended in panic amongst passengers, a workforce from the state fireplace products and services division visited all the community and filed a file on additional measures that wish to be taken for the security of passengers.
