Mumbai: 2 held for murdering gangster TP Raja

MUMBAI: Two former buddies of gangster DK Rao's shut aide TP Raja were arrested for allegedly stabbing him to dying on December 7, police said on Monday.

Police suspect some contentious financial dealing a few of the trio as the reason for Raja's killing.

Marimutthu Periswami Devendra alias 'TP Raja' was stabbed to dying at his residence at Mhada development in Kokri Agar area in Sion Koliwada.

During the investigation, it came to mild that Raja was concerned in the murder of one Krishna Devendra who was shot lifeless outdoor Sewree courtroom in south Mumbai in 2006, a police reputable said.

Devendra's killing was executed by way of Raja along with his aides Imran Munna Qureshi and Amjad Maqbul Khan, he said.

While investigating Raja's murder, a team of Wadala Truck Terminus (TT) police discovered that Imran and Khan were missing, he said.

A police team arrested Khan from Rajsamand in Rajasthan on December 16, he said.

During Khan's interrogation, the role performed by way of him and Imran in the killing came to the fore.

Three critical offences had been registered against Khan at various police stations, he said.

The police team, which was on hunt of Imran, gained a secret data that he would be visiting his residence in Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, following which a lure was laid and he was arrested.

"According to preliminary investigation, TP Raja was killed by two of his friends for financial transactions and property dealings," said N Ambika, deputy commissioner of police, Zone-IV.

While the first accused (Khan) was arrested from Rajastan, some other accused (Imran) was nabbed on Monday, she said.

At the time of murder, Raja was dressed in gold ornaments, weighing nearly 1kg however his killers left them untouched, some other reputable said.

Raja was a long-time energetic member of the DK Rao gang who labored for a builder foyer, he added.
