Mysuru Road ordeal will stretch for two months

BENGALURU: The nightmarish move slowly on Mysuru Road, owing to the maintenance works on the Sirsi Circle flyover, will final for 60 days and no longer 40 days as expected earlier.
The 2.4km flyover, which links southwest Bengaluru to CBD areas and past, was partially closed for site visitors on January 1, after the paintings began. BBMP officers had said the paintings will take 40 days, going by which the flyover had to be opened for site visitors round February 10.

But BBMP chief engineer (central) KT Nagaraj admitted that the paintings will not be finished in 40 days, which, in line with him, was the time limit set by way of site visitors police.

“We as engineers know the way the works cross on. We can’t do a shoddy task. It’s a flyover paintings and it must be achieved properly. The milling of 1 facet of the flyover has been finished and cleansing paintings is underway. Under any instances automobiles can't be allowed on any such floor and hence one facet of the flyover will also be thrown open for public utilization handiest after the asphalting is completed,” he added.

BBMP officers said they wanted four months to finish the paintings, but had been granted handiest 40 days by way of site visitors police.

It’s slightly per week since one facet of the flyover’s carriageway used by Kengeri-bound automobiles was closed and motorists are already feeling the warmth. Traffic snarls on the flyover and its two ends at Bapujinagar and Town Hall are lasting for hours on the finish.

Currently, one facet of the carriageway is open for site visitors and automobiles sure to Kengeri and Town Hall are being allowed to make use of it alternately.


Nagaraj maintained that the contractor has been given four months to finish the asphalting paintings following correct procedure. “We can’t compromise on the high quality of work. Traffic police have given us a time limit of 40 days to finish the task, but we need at least 55 to 60 days to finish the task,” he said.


After getting experiences that motorists had been getting stranded on the other facet of the flyover for hours together, mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun on Thursday night time inspected the flyover paintings and directed to hurry up the process.


Contractor M Nagesh claimed that if everything goes in line with the plan, then one facet of the relaid flyover might be opened on January 25. He added that 80mm thickness of the present asphalt has been scraped off the road floor.
