SURAT: At least 932 persons have been stuck drunk in Valsad district on New Year Eve at other places including access points to the state. Majority of the arrests have been made at state’s border examine posts to Union Territories Daman and Silvassa. During final new 12 months police arrested 607 and on December 31, 2016 overall 325 have been stuck drunk.
“Due to consciousness about stricter prohibition rules and proactive actions right through final two years police was once hoping that the choice of people violating the regulation will cut back but to our surprise it has greater. By arresting quite a lot of drunken drivers shall we prevent many accidents,” stated Sunil Joshi, superintendent of police, Valsad.
Those returning to state after eating liquor in private cars have been stopped at check-posts and on being found drunk they have been arrested by way of police. Buses full of the ones stuck drunk persisted ferrying the accused until early hours on Tuesday. It proved a herculean activity for police to regulate the massive choice of accused in police station and hospitals when they have been taken for medical exam.
