Panchaloha Nandhi idol found in TN's Tiruttani

CHENNAI: Police on Saturday recovered a one-foot tall Nandhi idol made of panchaloha from a scrap broker in Tiruttani. The Tiruttani police arrested the broker, Noorma, and knowledgeable the idol wing CID.

Based on a selected tip to the Tiruvallur district superintendent of police R Ponni, Tiruttani crime wing police inspector Paranthaman, sub-inspector Ilango and their team searched the shop. They discovered the idol weighing about 35kg, stored at the side of steel scrap within the shop.

Noorma advised police that 4 other people deposited the idol with him and asked him to keep it until Friday. They have been to come and collect the idol, he advised police. Police said they're looking for the group which got here in an SUV to, surrender the idol to Noorma.


The scrap merchant said he had no longer stored the idol for sale. Not satisfied with the answer, police have arrested him. He used to be produced sooner than a Justice of the Peace court docket in Tiruttani that remanded him in judicial custody.


On knowledge, district revenue divisional officer Bavanandhi and Tiruttani tahsildar Senkala took ownership of the idol. The idol can be produced in court docket and moved to the icon centre, where precious idols are preserved within the state.


Meanwhile, police have knowledgeable Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to make sure the age of the idol. Based on their request, a team of ASI officers will seek advice from Tiruttani and read about the piece.
