SURAT: Anti-Corruption bureau (ACB) arrested owner of a pesticide manufacturing uni on Tuesday for allegedly bribing Surat regional officer of Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
GPCB regional officer R V Patel was once stuck via Vadodara unit of ACB close to Jabuva village on Vadodara freeway with Rs 1.50 lakh cash and other gifts on November 2 while going to Ahmedabad.
ACB investigation revealed the position of Bharat Tank, owner of Mangalmurti Bio Chem Private Ltd. Of the total cash recovered from Patel, Rs one lakh was once present in a broadcast envelope of the accused’s unit when ACB seized it. The car in which the GPCB officer was once going was once also provided via Tank, police investigation revealed.
ACB booked Tank beneath Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 in which commercial organizations and its owners can also be booked for bribing a central authority officer. ACB officers claimed that it's first case registered in state beneath the amended act.
In his remark, Patel advised ACB that he had long past for public listening to at Tank’s unit on November 2 in Nana Borsara of Mangrol in Surat district. The public listening to was once held since Tank’s unit had carried out for plant expansion permission. Meanwhile, ACB officers were given clues from differences in statements of Patel and the car driving force Sandeep Basaiya. After preliminary investigation, Vadodara ACB officers submitted a criticism for additional investigation to Surat ACB place of work.
“It is first case of Gujarat ACB registered beneath the Act. There are a series of circumstantial evidences which establishes that the GPCB officer went to the village, took favour of the car with driving force and didn't cross anywhere else till he was once arrested close to Vadodara,” said P M Parmar, assistant director, ACB.
