PMC considers expansion of 24x7 water supply proj

PUNE: The civic body is making plans to increase the proposed round the clock water supply project to include 11 villages merged in its limits in 2017.

A Pune Municipal Corporation official stated a gathering was held not too long ago in regards to infrastructure in the 11 villages in the PMC headquarters in Shivajinagar. The issue of water supply to those spaces had arise all over the discussion, the official stated.



“The civic management plans to increase the project’s benefit to different spaces. Eleven villages will benefit in the first phase, While the 34 villages, that are to be added sooner or later, can be taken under consideration. A brand new guide shall be appointed to arrange the detailed project report for the 11 villages first, and then the 34 villages,” stated V G Kulkarni, head of PMC’s water department.

State minister for water assets Vijay Shivtare, who was provide at the assembly, wired that the water supply device in those villages needed an overhaul. “These villages have smaller and older pipelines. They need to be changed. The relaying of those supply lines is the need of the hour. These 6-inch lines can also be changed with new, bigger pipes. The detailed project report must be drafted in a time-bound manner. Funds for the DPR must be allotted in the annual finances,” stated Shivtare.


A PMC official stated a few officials had prompt that the same guide who had prepared the original DP be engaged for the expansion. However, it's most probably that a new guide shall be employed, the official stated.


The 24x7 water supply plan is geared toward providing equitable water supply across the city. A complete of 103 tanks shall be constructed across Pune as a part of this project. The scheme also contains putting in a 1,600km pipeline community and water meters. The PMC has set a 2021 deadline for the project, which is able to cost an estimated Rs2,900.


Eleven villages have been merged in the PMC limits in 2017. Nine have been merged partially and two — Uruli and Phursungi — have been completely introduced into PMC limits.
