Six die in accident on Pune-Bengaluru highway

KOLHAPUR: Six individuals of a circle of relatives from Murgud village in Kolhapur's Kagal taluka were killed in a road twist of fate after a truck rammed into the automobile they were travelling in at Tawandi ghat space close to Nipani in Karnataka, 45 km away from Kolhapur at the Pune-Bengaluru nationwide highway on Saturday.

The incident has been registered with the Nipani police station.

The deceased have been identified as Dilawar Bapusaheb Jamadar (58), Rehana Dilawar Jamadar (55), Mohsin Dilawar Jamadar (38), Afrin Mohsin Jamadar (35), Junaid Dilawar Jamadar (30) and Ayan Mohsin Jamadar (4).

"The incident occurred around 4.30 pm on Saturday. The initial investigation suggests that the front right side tyre of a truck travelling towards Kolhapur burst suddenly and the truck overturned and rammed into the car leading to the accident. All six persons in the car were killed on the spot," said a police officer.


"The deceased were taken to the government hospital in Nipani to complete the formalities and the bodies will be handed over to their family members," he said.


"The Jamadar family was heading towards Belgavi to meet their family. Junaid was driving the car. His wife Nishad had delivered a daughter a few weeks ago and the Jamadar family was going to meet the baby," he said.


"We are gathering information about the driver of the truck and searching for his whereabouts," the police officer said.
