Stolen panchaloha idols from Tirupur temples found abandoned in city

Coimbatore: Almost a month after two panchaloha idols were stolen from temples near Mangalam in Tirupur, the Coimbatore rural police have recovered them from an deserted development near Karumattampatti. The idols are reportedly worth greater than Rs 4 lakh.

According to an reliable source, the Karumattampatti police on Monday gained an anonymous call, announcing two idols were discovered near an deserted development on Karumattampatti-Avinashi Road.


Based at the tip, a crew of police officers rushed to the spot and recovered the idols. Further investigation revealed that the idols were stolen from the temples near Mangalam a few month in the past. After finishing due process, the idols were passed over to the Mangalam police.


An investigation officer stated they have got introduced a probe to identify the people concerned in the idol theft.


A month in the past, the Sulur police had arrested four people keen on idol theft in the town and recovered from them five idols at the side of gold and silver articles worth greater than Rs 5.31 lakh. The idols were stolen from temples in and round Sulur prior to now two months.
