TN: Board orders closure of tannery near Ambur

CHENNAI: The Central Pollution Control Board has directed a tannery near Ambur in Vellore district, which is a hub of leather industries in Tamil Nadu, to close all its production actions for non-compliance of stipulated norms.

The closure order against M/S T Abdul Wahid Tanneries Pvt Ltd in Solur village below the availability of Section five of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 was once issued on January 18 following a document from a workforce the regional directorate – south CPCB. The CPCB has also cautioned that the tannery should no longer resume operations with out its written permission.

It is a largescale trade that has been functioning for greater than 30 years and engaged in processing of semi-finished leather to produce executed leather. "The unit was closed on January 25. However, the power connection is yet to be disconnected as per the direction of CPCB," district atmosphere engineer of TNPCB M Pannirselvam mentioned.

A workforce of scientists hooked up to CPCB place of work (south regional director) carried out a wonder test on November 26 remaining 12 months once they discovered that the trade had failed to put in the online steady emission/effluent gadget (OCEMS).

The trade, in line with the closure order, had failed to procure consent from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) below the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act 1981.


“The has the same opinion expired on March 31 remaining 12 months. The unit applied for a similar every week later. It is below the method,” an official hooked up to TNPCB quoting the order.


Though the unit established connectivity of OCEMS for float meters installed for effluent remedy plant RO (reverse osmosis) feed, permeate and reject with the CPCB server, they weren't activated yet. “The remaining data from the trade was once received on August 2, 2018. The connectivity of web-camera with CPCB server may be no longer attached till date,” the official added.


Since the trade had not on time the set up OCEMs and connectivity of web-camera with CPCB by means of just about two years, the closure order has been issued.
