UDF walkout in Kerala Assembly over KSRTC mass termination

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition UDF staged a stroll out in the Kerala Assembly on Monday after heated exchanges with the ruling LDF over mass termination of three,861 empanelled (transient) bus conductors from state-owned KSRTC following a courtroom order. The UDF participants alleged that the CPI(M)-led LDF government had no longer objected in the top courtroom to the removal of the transient conductors of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and had violated all employment rules while terminating their products and services.

These workers had toiled for the cash-strapped KSRTC for years on meagre day-to-day wage of Rs 480, they stated searching for to transport an adjournment motion over the issue.

Earlier, rejecting the UDF allegations, state Transport Minister A K Saseendran, however, stated the federal government was forced to sack the empanelled conductors following a top courtroom order.

The courtroom had passed the directive while taking into account the plea of the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC)-selected applicants looking forward to appointment in the KSRTC.

Though the KSRTC control had approached the courtroom searching for extra time to put in force the decision, the plea was rejected, the minister stated.

"The government had no other option but to implement the verdict at that time. But, we are still working on ways to resolve the issue and a four-member committee has been formed for the purpose," Saseendran stated.

The minister requested why the UDF had no longer made appointments from the record of PSC rank holders when it was in energy.

Acting on a December 6 directive of the courtroom, the KSRTC had not too long ago removed 3,861 empanelled conductors from provider.

The courtroom had given the order on a petition which contended that the transient workers were blocking recruitment of conductors in the PSC rank record.

The courtroom had held that the vacant posts must be filled from the rank record of the PSC.

Senior Congress chief and previous minister Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan claimed the lack of efficient intervention of the Left government had resulted in the top courtroom verdict ordering removal of three,861 empanelled conductors.

In a scathing assault at the KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director Tomin J Thachankary, he alleged the officer had already given a letter to the federal government searching for sacking of the transient workers and the control had no longer adverse in the courtroom the mass termination.

"The employees were terminated even without mandatory notice. It is against the employment laws. You (government) cannot wash your hands pointing to the court verdict. Kerala will never forgive you for this," Radhakrishnan stated.


Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala stated there were circumstances when about four,000 empanelled conductors have been made everlasting right through the UDF regime years ago.


At the similar time, a complete of 20,235 appointments have been constructed from the PSC rank record also, he claimed adding the prevailing stalemate can have been have shyed away from if the LDF government had adopted a identical way.


He also alleged that mismanagement of the general public transporter had resulted in the KSRTC debt emerging to Rs four,000 crore below the three-year rule of the LDF government against Rs 2,130 crore right through the previous UDF rule.


As Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan rejected their plea for the motion, the UDF participants walked out of the House in protest.
