Surat: A 24-year-old working towards physiotherapist is noticed as a mascot of alternate for inculcating the dependancy of physical workout and running amongst girls within the Diamond Hub of Varachha.
Dr Afreen Jasani embarked at the venture to spread awareness on maintaining healthy lifestyle among the girls by organising the primary ever marathon solely for the ladies of Varachha on December 30.
Dr Afreen, who runs a physiotherapy and fitness centre in Varachha informed TOI, “Women in Varachha are 100% housewives and their role is restricted to kitchen and nurturing children. I considered organising a marathon solely for ladies of Varachha. To our wonder, 6,500 girls participated in ‘Run Varachha’ marathon and lots of ran dressed in saris.”
“When the registrations were open, girls were not conscious what a marathon is. We had to give an explanation for them that it's good for his or her health. Post-marathon, we are flooded with inquiries by the ladies at the running pointers and workout regime,” she added.
Dr Afreen, a move out from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), has taken up a venture to spread health awareness among the girls.
“We get many sufferers, particularly girls from Varachha, who are suffering from issues associated with knees, again pain, pain in hands etc. This is all because of the sedentary lifestyle and lack of workout. Marathon will inspire the ladies to return out and get started making their life more fit,” mentioned Dr Afreen.
