5,000 houses in DLF to get ‘smart meters’ in March

GURUGRAM: Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) announced set up of five,000 ‘smart meters’ within the city, an initiative to help them generate electricity bills robotically and test meter tampering makes an attempt. As a part of the smart grid mission, the government has decided on six cities — Gurugram, Panchkula, Hisar, Panipat, Faridabad and Karnal — where the mission shall be performed in levels.

“Earlier, it was once planned to be initiated in the second phase of the smart grid mission but government wanted to go ahead with it within the first phase,” a central authority source mentioned. According to officers, Energy Efficiency Services restricted (EESL) will get started putting in the meters from March 1 within the DLF sub-division and can be chargeable for their upkeep and operation for eight years.


“These meters are different from those lately in use. They can calculate the reading robotically. If somebody tampers with the meter, it would record the trade and alert the officers,” mentioned Vineeta Singh, superintending engineer of DHBVN. “In the coming days, customers will be capable of transfer to pre-paid mode, but for that a new tariff price should be made up our minds via Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission,” she added.
