RAJKOT: In a major transfer that might significantly impact city’s air high quality and traffic issues, the Rajkot city’s Road Safety Committee has decided to paintings on plan to prohibit commercial chhakda rickshaws from city roads.
The determination used to be taken on Wednesday by means of the committee in consultation with the Rajkot city police. A gathering of various stakeholders has been scheduled on Friday at city police commissioner’s workplace to discuss the modalities and trade ways to move items within the city, basically within the congested areas.
The committee used to be of common opinion that commercial chhakdas ferrying items within the city are extremely polluting vehicles and will have to be banned.
Rajkot RTO B M Mojidra mentioned, “We mentioned that issue intimately. The police commissioner will do additional consultation with different stakeholders about banning chhakdas from city roads. The vehicles cannot be banned with immediate impact as they're very important for transporting items on the congested roads of the city.”
A movement to prohibit the chhakdas used to be initiated a couple of years ago by means of RMC but due to political force the speculation used to be dropped.
During the assembly Rajkot police commissioner Manoj Agarwal also suggested RMC to put in zebra crossing, no access and no parking indicators at various places.
The police also noticed that state transport buses were over speeding on the busy roads which used to be bad for commuters and may result in major accident. For this, city police plans to give training to the state transport drivers.
Another necessary determination during the assembly used to be of a joint motion by means of city police and RMC against the ones vendors encroaching the footpath and roads.
