PUNE: Three persons had been booked on Thursday for posing as customer care representatives of an e-commerce web page and duping a 25-year-old girl of Rs 82,000 in November final yr.

The suspects siphoned off the volume from the woman and her father's bank accounts.

Based at the complaint lodged via the woman's father, the 3 persons had been booked below IPC sections 419 (dishonest via personation) and 420 (dishonest) and relevant provisions of the IT Act.

The girl, a resident of Kasba Peth, had order a hoop worth Rs 107 from the web site on November three. But she returned the ring because it didn't are compatible her.


"When the woman did not get the refund, she called the site's customer care. The person, who answered the call, took her card details for the refund. The woman even shared the one time password (OTP) thrice with the person, after which Rs 1,600 was debited from her account in three transactions," Faraskhana police inspector Sambhaji Shirke said.


The girl then filed an online complaint at the web site, following which some of the suspects contacted her and asked for the details of an alternate card. The girl shared her father's debit card main points and the OTP.


The suspect sent a hyperlink to her father's cell phone and asked the woman to modify off the system for sometime. When she switched on, she found Rs 20,000 was once withdrawn. "When her father contacted the person, the latter told him that he would get refund in the morning," Shirke said. On checking the account steadiness, he found that he misplaced Rs 60,000 extra, after which the next morning the remaining Rs 181 was once withdrawn.


Probe printed that the cash was once transferred to accounts in Mumbai and Delhi.
