Government adopts 10% quota for EWS category

RANCHI: The Jharkhand government on Thursday adopted the Union government’s proposal to give 10% quota in government jobs and higher training to aspirants from the weaker financial sections of the overall class. With it, the overall reservation in Jharkhand rose to 60%. At present 26% is reserved for Scheduled Tribe, 10% for Scheduled Caste and 14% for Other Backward Castes (OBC) within the state. The present 10% is over and above the prevailing 50% quota.

The state cabinet, led by leader minister Raghubar Das, gave its approval to the dept of body of workers and administrative reforms’ be aware for adopting the proposal.

Speaking to journalists after the assembly, additional leader secretary K K Khandelwal stated the quota shall be acceptable for aspirants whose annual family incomes are below Rs eight lakh.

Khandelwal pointed out that basic class aspirants who have farm lands of five acres and above, properties having dimension of 1,000 sq. ft and above shall be excluded. “Similarly, those having residential plots above 100 sq. yards in city local our bodies and 200 sq. yards in panchayat areas can also be excluded,” Khandelwal stated. He further stated basic class scholars whose title came out seemed in merit lists of a particular exam shall be ineligible for the quota.

In a commentary issued by his office, Das stated deputy commissioners of all 24 districts have been urged to collect and create a database of such candidates at panchayat, block and district levels and post a document within 30 days to resolve the seat proportion in government vacancies and academic institutes.

In every other decision, the Das cabinet additionally gave approval to the Mukhyamantri Krishi Ashirwaad Yojana, which guarantees an annual financial help of Rs five,000 to over 28 lakh small and marginal farmers of the state.


Agriculture secretary Puja Singhal stated the cabinet additionally okayed the allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for the scheme, but hinted that disbursements, to be made thru direct receive advantages transfers, are unlikely ahead of June due to the impending type code of habits, which is due to set once announcement of Lok Sabha election dates is made.

The 11-member ministerial council licensed 24 proposals in all which consisted of proposals from the state land reforms and income, well being, medical training and circle of relatives welfare, rural development, mines and geology, upper and technical training and agriculture and animal husbandry departments.
