Ranchi: The income tax (I-T) department will release a pressure in opposition to tax evasion and bogus refunds even as the organisation is striving to collect Rs 14,700 crore as taxes from the Bihar-Jharkhand area for the 2018-19 monetary year.
The I-T department may be scrutinising returns filed through salaried folks to hit upon cases the place staff have claimed wrong space hire allowance (HRA) deductions.

Principal chief commissioner of income tax (PCCIT) Kailash Chandra Ghumaria on Friday the department has detected a lot of salaried people have claimed HRA exemption in a wrongful way to evade paying taxes.


Ghumaria mentioned the I-T department may be exploring different spaces for boosting tax collections in a bid to satisfy its annual goal. He added that the department has initiated motion in opposition to those who claimed bogus refunds. “We have known around 1,400 people to this point, with most offenders being from Ranchi and Ramgarh. FIRs have been lodged in opposition to those indulging in fraud through filing bogus returns,” he mentioned.


“We have made up our minds to take action in opposition to 179 recurring evaders who have refused to report I-T returns in spite of a number of alternatives.


Ghumaria informed that the department has accumulated Rs 8,400 crore as taxes from Bihar and Jharkhand area to this point. “We hope to achieve Rs 9,000 crore through the tip of February,” he added.
