Coimbatore: Autonomous robot cars built with Lego blocks moved on a mat filled with plastic blocks and balls. Mechanical palms extended from them, attempting to pick up the blocks. While some failed and knocked down the blocks, others succeeded and moved directly to the next function.
The robots were built via faculty scholars, who participated within the First Lego League (FLL), a global pageant performed via Denmark-based Lego Education and FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) within the town on Sunday.
Twenty-four teams from across Tamil Nadu participated within the regional-level pageant, the theme of which used to be ‘Into Orbit’.
“We started to construct the robotic 3 months in the past. As we could spend time on them simplest after the school hours and all the way through the weekends, it took us about 15 days to feed instructions for a unmarried task,” mentioned M Vignesh Velan, a Class XI student from the Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School on the outskirts of Villupuram.
“Based on a map that confirmed the targets, we planned and programmed the robotic with knowledge like how lengthy it has to transport, where to turn and what action to accomplish. We needed to find out about the map intimately and programme the actions of the robotic appropriately. Any deviation, even via a few millimetres, would cave in the entirety.”
V Navaneethan, who constructed the robotic, mentioned that as the team lacked the experience to take part within the pageant, they were knocked out of several times due to violation of norms. “We learnt the ways from the internet with the help of our coach, Siva Kumar,” he mentioned.
As the robotic may do more than one duties concurrently, the team finished 4 duties within 29 seconds, whilst the opposite teams had finished only one or two duties, mentioned Siva.
Programming and feeding knowledge into the robots is extra like playing games, due to Lego Mindstorms, a hardware-software platform produced via Lego, mentioned K Karan, a student from the Thoraipakkam Government Higher Secondary School in Chennai.
Eleven teams might be decided on for the national-level match scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on February 23. The winner of the national-level match will take part within the finals in the USA.
