KOLKATA: The KMC revenue department has get a hold of a ward-wise listing of most sensible property-tax defaulters, who owe the civic body Rs 2 lakh-Rs 5 lakh. The listing, wearing names of 50 defaulters in the first section, can be handed to councillors of the respective wards with a request to satisfy them and persuade them to pay the dues.
Deputy mayor Atin Ghosh, overseeing the revenue department, held a gathering with civic officials on Friday. Ghosh advised KMC officials to hand the lists to the councillors in order that the defaulters might be put beneath pressure. “We wish to turn the heat on habitual defaulters and augment our revenue. We need to take lend a hand of the councillors to persuade the defaulters who owe Rs 2 lakh. In some zones, regarded as high residential spaces, defaulters owe the KMC over Rs 5 lakh,” stated a KMC revenue department respectable.
