Maharashtra govt releases Rs 1454 crore towards drought relief measures

MUMBAI: The state executive on Friday launched Rs 1454 crore in opposition to drought reduction measures. This is the second installment of the Rs 2900 crore that the state has promised in opposition to drought reduction measures.

Maharashtra has already declared 151 talukas as drought affected and had also despatched a memorandum to the Centre looking for Rs 7900 crore in opposition to reduction measures. The Centre has handiest launched Rs 4714 crore.


So a ways, 60 in step with cent of the state's farmers are hit by means of drought. Around 86 lakh hectares of land under cultivation has been affected with drought. Of the 1.6 crore farmers within the state, 82 lakh were affected.


Maharashtra executive has also budgeted another Rs 2000 crore from its contingency funds for drought reduction.


From this installment, Rs 7.06 crore will cross to the Konkan department, Rs 446.48 crore to Nashik department, Rs 206.59 crore to Pune department, Rs 525.29 crore to Aurangabad department, Rs 237.18 crore to Amravati department and Rs 32.13 crore for Nagpur department.


Besides the reimbursement amount, the state has also extended different reduction measures like waiver in student fees from the ones villages, keep on recuperating of crop loans, keep on payment of agricultural electricity bills, waiver on ST bus tickets from students and providing food grains at less expensive charges.
